Lailatul Mi'raj is a Muslim holiday that falls on the 27th day of the month of Rajab. It commemorates the Prophet Mohamad’s (PBUH) night-time journey from Mecca to the ‘Farthest Mosque’ or Beytul Maqdas in Jerusalem where he ascended to heaven, and given the instruction for Muslims to pray five times daily.
-
Therefore, Lailatul Mi'raj consists of two major parts. The first part begins with the Prophet Mohamad (PBUH) at the Ka'ba in Mecca. Angel Gabriel visited him and provided him a winged Horse called Buraq with which carries the Prophet to the ‘Farthest Mosque,’ or Masjidul Al- -Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, where Prophet Mohamad (PBUH) joins and leads past prophets in prayer.
-
The Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) then ascends to heaven where he is commanded by Allah of the duty for Muslims to pray five times daily (Salat).
